The SMARTWRAP S3 is an in-line pallet wrapper designed for conveyor systems. Pallets move in automatically, are wrapped by the machine, and exit on the conveyor. No manual handling is needed, as the wrapper clamps, cuts and seals the film without operator intervention.

Handles pallets weighing up to 3000 kg with a maximum load diagonal of 1753 mm, on a 2000 mm turntable that can be height-adjusted by 550 mm to match the conveyor height.

This pallet wrapper processes 30 to 40 pallets per hour up to a height of 3200 mm. The turntable operates at speeds from 0 to 15 rpm, and the powered film carriage stretches film by 300% at a constant tension, ensuring every pallet is wrapped to the same standard.

A film rope system draws the film into a rope at the base of the load, securing goods to the pallet. The wrapper is built on a slewing ring with double nylon rollers made from stainless steel 201, features SIEMENS PLC control with a 7-inch touchscreen, and weighs 980 kg.

The SMARTWRAP S3 is ideal for distribution centres, manufacturing sites and logistics operations where high output and reliable pallet securing are essential. Suitable for handling FMCG, food and drink, construction materials, chemicals, paper and consumer products. This pallet wrapper is designed for integration into automated conveyor systems, taking pallets directly from upstream equipment such as palletisers or order pickers, wrapping them, and passing them on for storage or dispatch.

Common loads include cartons, sacks, drums, shrink-wrapped packs and awkwardly shaped items stacked on pallets. The film rope system is particularly effective for loads at risk of shifting or falling during handling, as it secures goods to the pallet base. The SMARTWRAP S3 is a replacement for manual wrapping in operations prioritising speed, uniformity and operator safety.

How the pallet wrapper supports your dispatch process

• Pallets move automatically. Integrated in a conveyor system, the pallet wrapper operates unattended: pallets enter, are wrapped, and exit.
• Film is managed by the pallet wrapper. The machine clamps the film at the start, cuts it at the finish and heat-seals the end. No manual contact with the load is required.
• Handles 3000 kg and up to 3200 mm height. Heavy and tall pallets are processed on the same pallet wrapper, using a 2000 mm turntable.
• 300% pre-stretch at a steady force. One metre of film is extended to three metres, maintaining even tension from start to finish of the wrap.
• A rope secures the load to the pallet. The film rope system binds the goods firmly to the pallet, ensuring the load remains upright during transport.
• Components are maintained, not replaced. SIEMENS control unit, SICK sensor, OMRON relays, a slewing ring and stainless steel rollers.

How the SMARTWRAP S3 operates in-line

1. Place the 500 mm wide stretch film roll onto the film carriage and feed it through the pre-stretch rollers.
2. Select the programme on the touch screen: set the number of wraps at the base, middle and top, the turntable speed and the film tension.
3. The conveyor positions the pallet on the turntable and the pallet wrapper starts automatically.
4. The pallet wrapper clamps the film, wraps the load from bottom to top and back, ropes the film at the base, then cuts and seals the film tail.
5. The pallet exits on the conveyor and the next pallet is loaded.

Settings and maintenance

• Programme. The number of wraps at the base, middle and top, turntable speed and film tension are set on the SIEMENS touch screen and saved for each load type.
• Film tension. The powered feed maintains a steady tension, adjustable for the load: firm for stable pallets, gentler for lighter or irregular loads.
• Film. Uses stretch film 500 mm wide, with rolls up to 250 mm in diameter. The pallet wrapper stretches the film by 300%.
• Turntable height. Adjustable above 550 mm, allowing the pallet wrapper to be set to the height of the conveyor it is integrated with.
• Maintenance. Always switch off the pallet wrapper before carrying out any work. Keep the rollers and the cutting and welding unit clear of film, and regularly check the slewing ring, belt drive and safety belt inside the column.

SMARTWRAP S3 operator responsibilities and process checks

At the start of each shift, make sure the film carriage, rollers and cutting/welding unit are free from film remnants and debris. Check the conveyor for correct alignment and confirm the safety belt inside the column is undamaged. While running, monitor for film breaks, uneven wrapping or pallets not positioned centrally on the turntable.

Selecting and installing the SMARTWRAP S3

Before choosing the SMARTWRAP S3, ensure your pallet dimensions, weight and height are within the pallet wrapper’s limits. Check there is enough space for installation, including access for changing film rolls and carrying out maintenance. The conveyor height must fall within the turntable’s adjustment range, and the direction of pallet movement should be specified for correct integration.

Frequent errors include using film rolls that are too wide or too large in diameter, applying excessive film tension to light or unstable loads, or not keeping the conveyor and turntable free from blockages. To prevent stoppages, install the pallet wrapper where the power supply is stable.

When designing your line, take into account the order of equipment before and after the pallet wrapper, such as palletisers, labellers or stretch hooders, to maintain smooth pallet handling.
