RUBBER automatic carton sealer: folds upper flaps and applies tape to both top and bottom surfaces

RUBBER is an automatic carton sealer that closes the top flaps of cartons automatically: a sensor detects the carton, the flap folding mechanism turns in the front, rear and both side flaps, and the side belts convey the carton through the upper and lower tape heads, applying tape to both the top and the base in one pass. The belts operate at 16 metres per minute, so there is no need to hold the flaps down by hand.

It handles cartons from W120 × H120 mm up to W500 × H500 mm and takes Kraft or BOPP tape 48–60 mm wide. Width and height are adjusted using hand wheels, making the machine ideal for batches of cartons of the same size.

The machine operates on single-phase 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz and uses 240 W; the flap folding unit is pneumatic, so compressed air is also required. A clear safety guard with doors encloses the folding and taping area, and an emergency stop is fitted to the frame.

You can use the machine on its own at the end of a packing bench, or integrate it into a line following a case erector and conveyor: the carton enters, is closed and taped, and exits at the other end.

Operating instructions for the RUBBER box taping machine

1. Connect to single-phase 220–240 V supply and compressed air; ensure the air filter is drained of water.
2. Adjust the side belt width and upper tape head height to match your carton using the hand wheels.
3. Place a roll of Kraft or BOPP tape, 48–60 mm wide, into both the upper and lower cassettes and centre it.
4. Press the ON button to start the side drive belts.
5. Insert the carton with the top flaps open and facing upwards. The sensor triggers the folder, the flaps are closed in sequence, and the carton passes through the tape heads.
6. Remove the sealed carton at the outfeed. If the carton size changes, readjust the width and height settings.

Tape heads: maintenance and troubleshooting

• Tape applied too tightly or too loosely. Adjust the pull spring tension on the tape head; thicker tapes such as Kraft require greater tension.
• Uneven tape cut. The blade may be blunt or incorrectly fitted: reverse or replace as needed.
• Tape overlap too long or too short. Adjust the blade support for the front overlap and the limit block for the rear overlap.
• Tape creases or shifts to one side. Clean the rubber roller, adjust the tape holder or its spring, and ensure the tape sits close to the carton.
• Pneumatic unit. Regularly empty water from the air filter and keep the lubricator topped up with pneumatic oil; wipe dust from the cylinder rod.
• Servicing. Always disconnect the power and air supply before carrying out any work. Lubricate the adjustment screws every three months, keep the blade clean and oiled, and ensure the machine remains dry. The side belts will gradually tighten over time – this is normal.
