ASTRA automatic strapper for parcels and cartons

ASTRA is an automatic strapper: simply place your parcel on the table beneath the arch and press the start button. The machine automatically feeds the strap around the item, applies tension, heat-seals the strap and trims it. The operator does not need to thread the strap manually or handle the weld.

It operates with 9–12 mm wide PP strap from a reel with a 200 mm core. The strap is heat-sealed at a preset temperature, and tension is adjusted via a dial, from gentle for cartons to firm for heavier packs.

The arch is available in three dimensions: 600 × 400 mm, 800 × 600 mm or 1000 × 800 mm, which determines the maximum parcel size that can be strapped. The minimum package size is 80 mm wide by 30 mm high. The table height is 800 mm, matching standard conveyors and packing benches.

Each cycle is completed in less than two seconds, so the strapper keeps pace with the packing line. The machine is constructed on a steel chassis, measuring 1250 × 600 × 1510 mm and weighing approximately 185 kg, fitted with castors and floor-lock bolts. It operates on either single-phase 220 V or three-phase 380 V power supply.

How to operate the ASTRA strapping machine

1. Fit the strap coil onto the reel under the table and feed the strap into the machine until the start button illuminates.
2. Switch on the machine and allow the heater to reach temperature; the smoke extraction fan runs while the machine is powered.
3. Adjust the strap tension using the dial: use a lower setting for cartons, higher for heavier items.
4. Position your package on the table beneath the arch and press the green start button.
5. The machine feeds the strap around the package, applies tension, heat-seals and cuts it. Remove the package; if unused for 15 seconds, the motor stops automatically.

Settings and maintenance

• Tension. Adjust the tension dial to your preferred setting, higher numbers give greater tension; maximum is over 90 kg.
• Weld temperature. Factory-set for the strap we supply, normally no adjustment required.
• Strap width. Designed for 9–12 mm strap. Using a different width requires changing several components, so please confirm your strap width before ordering.
• Strap out of guide. Use the reverse feed switch to withdraw the strap and re-thread, or use the jog switch to return the sealer to its home position.
• Maintenance. Always switch off the machine before maintenance. Keep the strap path clean; the machine does not require lubrication and the feed rollers must remain dry and free from oil.
