Plastic PP strapping is widely used in both craft and industrial settings, providing a quick, efficient, and economical method of securing packages. PP tape is suitable where high tensile strength is not essential. Plastic PP strapping 12 and 16mm for securing palletsThese tapes can be applied with (semi-)automatic strapping machines, a hand-operated mechanical strapping tool (metal seals required), or a battery-powered strapping tool (using heat and vibration to seal the strap). For greater efficiency and to protect the tape, a strap dispenser trolley is recommended. Battery strapping tools have the advantage over manual mechanical tools in that they do not require metal seals, as the strap is joined by heat sealing, which can reduce packaging and sealing costs over time. Straps can also be used with plastic seals. PP strapping is available in a range of sizes and core diameters (63mm, 150mm, 200mm, 280mm, 406mm).

PP strap – Joining straps

Plastic PP strapping 12 and 16mm for securing palletsPP, or polypropylene, tape consists of a clean, lightweight, and environmentally conscious polypropylene layer. This tape is a practical choice for bundling and securing, designed for straightforward application and helping to improve productivity across various sectors. PP tapes are produced in widths from 5mm to 19mm, with thicknesses between 0.5mm and 1mm. Thanks to its affordability and ease of use, PP strapping is a versatile solution for packaging in many industries and workshops. The product is highly reliable and rarely fails in use. Customers may have their logo (up to three colours) printed on the tape for branding purposes. Polypropylene tape is recyclable and can be removed easily if required. PP tape is available in widths from 5mm to 19mm and thicknesses from 0.5mm to 1mm. The tape can withstand loads from 70kg to 500kg. With the same width and thickness, PP strapping offers about half the strength of PET strapping, but PP has up to 20% greater elongation. For automatic machines, core diameters of 200mm or 406mm are typical, while 406mm is standard for hand-held or battery-powered tools. PP strapping is also available with either embossed or smooth surfaces. It is straightforward to use with semi-automatic machines. When using hand tools, an embossed surface increases flexibility and resistance to tearing. The cost is also lower, as the relief surface allows for a tape of the same strength to be produced with less material. PP strapping can be manufactured in various colours and can be printed with a company logo or slogan.

Benefits of PP strap:

PP straps are suitable for securing a wide range of products and cartons. Their advantages include:

  • light in weight
  • offer high tensile strength
  • chemically resistant
  • simple to handle
  • will not corrode
  • help maintain both safety and a neat appearance of goods
  • compatible with all machine types (automatic, semi-automatic, and manual strapping tools)
  • withstand temperature variations (from minus ten up to fifty degrees Celsius)
  • cost-effective and can be printed with your design

Comparison of PET strap and PP tape

  • PET strap provides greater strength than PP strap (even at the same width)
  • PET band will not snap, even under high tension
  • PET strap can be stretched up to fifty percent further than polypropylene strap (with identical dimensions)
  • PET straps are more tolerant of temperature changes
