POF shrink film, 15 microns

This POF shrink film (polyolefin) is 15 microns thick and supplied on centre-folded rolls. Place your item between the two layers, seal the edges, then apply heat to shrink the film tightly around the contents.

Available in three roll widths: 200 mm (1259 metres, 500 square metres), 500 mm (1335 metres, 1335 square metres) and 550 mm (1335 metres, 1468 square metres). The width given is the folded width.

At 130 °C, the film shrinks by 66% in length and 68% in width. At 120 °C, shrinkage is 54% lengthwise and 57% across.

This film is transparent and highly glossy (clarity 97, gloss 85), allowing the packaged item to remain visible, ideal for cosmetics, food packaging, books or boxed goods.

Technical details

Purpose of shrink film

• Neat, secure wrapping. The shrink film forms closely around the item, providing a clear view.
• Impressive strength for its gauge. Tensile strength is 115 N/mm² along the length and 110 N/mm² across at 15 microns.
• Reliable sealing. Hot-wire seal strength is 0.9 N/mm.
• Highly transparent and glossy. Haze 2.5, clarity 97, gloss 85: gives a professional finish.
• Centre-folded format. The item is placed between the two layers, with only the open edges sealed.
• Available in three widths. Choose from 200, 500 or 550 mm for a range of pack sizes.

POF shrink film 15 micron: Integration and operator responsibilities

During use, the operator checks for tidy seals and uniform shrinkage. Excessive heat can cause burning or holes; too little heat means the film will not shrink snugly.

Application

1. Select the correct roll: the folded width should accommodate the width and height of the pack.
2. Mount the roll on the sealer’s film holder, ensuring the fold is on the right side.
3. Position the item between the two layers of shrink film.
4. Seal the open edges and trim the film.
5. Shrink the film using hot air in a tunnel or hood; at 120 to 130 °C, the film contracts by 54% to 68%.

Handling and storage

• Shrink temperature. The film shrinks by 54%/57% at 120 °C, 56%/60% at 125 °C, and 66%/68% at 130 °C (lengthwise/crosswise).
• Sealing. The hot-wire seal achieves 0.9 N/mm; adjust your machine’s sealing time to suit the shrink film.
• Roll width. The folded width of the roll must accommodate the width and height of your package, allowing for a little extra space.
• Storage. Store the rolls in their original packaging, in a dry place away from heat and sunlight, to prevent the shrink film from shrinking prematurely.
• Handling. Take care to protect the roll edges from impact, as any damage may cause the shrink film to tear during unwinding.
