The ST-210S-H2 is a packaging inkjet printer with two print heads. Together, the heads produce a single print area up to 25.4 mm high; separately, they can mark two different positions on a package or print two parallel lines.

Each print head achieves up to 600 × 600 DPI resolution, and the printer operates at line speeds up to 406 metres per minute at 90 DPI. The gap between the print heads and the product is 1 to 5 mm, with no intervening parts.

A 7-inch colour touchscreen runs embedded Linux in over 40 languages. The system supports more than twenty separate counters and can print text, dates, shift codes, serial numbers, barcodes, QR codes and database fields.

The casing is made from aviation-grade aluminium. The controller measures 202 × 119 × 61.2 mm, and each print head is 112 × 79 × 103 mm. Power is supplied via a 100–240 V adaptor. The printer is RoHS, CE and FCC certified.

How the printer operates on the production line

1. Position the controller next to the conveyor and fit both heads above it, 1 to 5 mm from the product, ensuring the machine is earthed.
2. Choose whether the heads print a single tall code or two separate marks, and set this on the display.
3. Install the photoelectric sensor where the item is detected and, if the line speed varies, connect the encoder as well.
4. Enter the text on the screen or transfer it via the network, then adjust the print height and resolution.
5. Start the line: each item passing the sensor is marked as it moves through.

Settings and maintenance

• One block or two marks. If the heads are joined, the print height is 25.4 mm; if used separately, they print in two locations. Set this first, as it determines head placement.
• Resolution and speed. 406 metres per minute at 90 DPI, down to 60 metres per minute at 600 DPI. Select the lowest resolution at which the code remains scannable.
• Distance. 1 to 5 mm from the surface, with the guide plate 0.5 to 2.5 mm from the product to prevent nozzle contact.
• Mounting. The bracket must be fixed where there is no vibration, and both heads must be set at the same distance, or one print will appear lighter.
• Cartridges. Two heads require two cartridges. Insert and remove them at an angle, and never take one out while the printer is running.
• Power and dust. Use a dedicated socket, consider a UPS, and keep the printer free from dust.

The price is shown on this page. A printer for packaging is chosen for the code and the production line, so please check the following before purchase:

• Code height. Up to 25.4 mm with both heads. If 12.7 mm is sufficient, the ST-210S-H1 with a single head is more economical.
• One location or two. The heads can mark both the top and side of the same item, which determines how they are installed.
• Line speed. 406 metres per minute at 90 DPI. At 600 DPI, the line can run up to 60 metres per minute.
• Surface. Cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, cable, stone, electronic parts and automotive components. The ink is selected for the surface material.
• Data. Specify whether the text is entered on the screen or sent from your system: the printer is equipped with network, USB and RS232 ports.
• Ink. As the printer has two heads, it requires two cartridges, so please consider the ink usage for both when calculating operating costs.
