Purpose of this generator

• Automatic start-up. A 20 kW generator is only effective if it operates independently: the built-in ATS detects a power failure, starts the engine and switches the load, then restores it once mains power is back.
• Prepared for low temperatures. Fitted with oil, water and air heaters, a temperature controller and an electric water pump, the engine starts reliably even in January, first time.

How the generator takes over the supply

1. The generator should be positioned on a flat surface with clear space around the enclosure for ventilation and maintenance access.
2. The ATS is installed between the mains supply and the building’s distribution board.
3. If the mains fails, the controller starts the engine and allows it to reach operating speed.
4. The ATS switches the load to the generator, so the building continues to run on 230 V and 400 V as normal.
5. When mains power is restored, the load is switched back and the engine runs briefly before shutting down.

Operation and maintenance

• Fuel. The generator is only as reliable as its fuel tank. Plan refuelling for the expected outage period, not just for test runs.
• Test under load. Starting it monthly without a load proves little. Let it run with the actual load for several minutes.
• Oil and coolant. Check both at every test. A water-cooled engine that loses coolant will fail at the critical moment.
• Heaters. Keep oil, water and air heaters powered from the mains, or cold starts will not be possible when needed.
• Air and exhaust. The enclosure must have clear airflow in and out. If the generator is boxed in, it will overheat at full load.
• Servicing. Service intervals should follow engine hours, not the calendar. Filters and belts are inexpensive; a BAUDOUIN engine run dry is not.

• Required load in kW. Delivers 18 kW / 23 kVA continuously, or 20 kW / 25 kVA for standby use. Remember to include the starting current for motors, which can be several times their rated output.
• Number of phases. Both 230 V and 400 V options are available. Please specify which of your loads require three-phase supply.
• Automatic or manual operation. An ATS is built in, providing automatic changeover. Installation into your distribution board must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
• Installation location. Measures 205 × 85 × 115 cm and weighs 750 kg. Ensure there is adequate airflow and space to open the canopy for maintenance.
• Cold weather starting. Oil, coolant and air heaters require a mains connection at the generator site.
