Use-Case – Industrial Floor Scrubber J85 vs Commercial Floor Scrubber J45

  • Single shift covers all halls
  • Up to 69% higher productivity
  • Almost double tank capacities
  • Built for heavy industrial use
  • Under 12-month payback vs J45

The Challenge

A busy metal parts manufacturing facility near Brno was operating two daily cleaning shifts using a Commercial Floor Scrubber J45 to maintain three production halls (totalling 8,400 m²) in line with internal 5S protocols and customer audit expectations. Plans to expand into a fourth hall would have necessitated either an additional machine or extra hours. Management assessed the familiar J45 against the Industrial Floor Scrubber J85 to determine whether a single, higher-capacity machine and one operator could reliably clean all halls within one shift.

The main considerations were: actual cleaning output, tank sizes (impacting break intervals), battery endurance, and the return on investment for the higher-priced J85.

Product B: Commercial Floor Scrubber J45

The Commercial Floor Scrubber J45 achieves a rated cleaning performance of 2,100 m²/h with a 510 mm cleaning path and a 800 mm drying width. Its 45 L solution tank and 55 L recovery tank are suitable for medium-sized spaces before a refill is necessary.

At 60% of its rated output (a realistic figure accounting for obstacles, turning, and operator pauses), the J45 manages approximately 1,260 m²/h. Over an eight-hour shift, this equates to around 10,080 m²/day, though in practice, the factory needed to split cleaning across two shifts to avoid disrupting production changeovers. While the J45’s 3–4 h battery life is ideal for retail and smaller premises, its tank size and industrial durability limited its suitability as the only machine for intensive factory cleaning.

Product A: Industrial Floor Scrubber J85

The Industrial Floor Scrubber J85 offers a working efficiency of 3,550 m²/h with the same 510 mm cleaning width but features a broader 860 mm squeegee for quicker water collection. Its 85 L solution tank and 90 L recovery tank are nearly double those of the J45, significantly reducing the frequency of stops for refilling and emptying.

At 60% of its rated capacity, the J85 achieves about 2,130 m²/h, enabling roughly 17,040 m² of effective cleaning per eight-hour shift. This easily covers the factory’s current 8,400 m² area plus the new hall, with capacity left for spot cleaning. Equipped with a robust 550 W brush motor, 600 W vacuum motor, 3–3.5 h continuous operation, and industrial-grade anti-leak protection, the J85 is designed for challenging settings and multi-level sites.

ROI & Value Analysis

Product B Performance:

Product A Performance:

The J85 cleans approximately 6,960 m² more per shift than the J45 at 60% utilisation, enabling the factory to consolidate from two cleaning shifts to one, even with increased floor space.

Investment Comparison:
Product B price: €1,549
Product A price: €2,889
Price difference: €1,340
Daily saving with Product A: €200/day in labour (reducing from 16 h to 8 h)
Payback period for the price difference: less than 1 month of standard operation

Even if the J85 is operated only three days per week, the investment is recouped in under three months. After this, the factory benefits from ongoing labour savings of around €1,000/month when used five days per week.

Verdict

Opt for Product B if your available funds are below €1,600, your total floor space does not exceed 4,000 m², and cleaning requirements can be met within a single, light-duty shift without tight production schedules.

Product A is recommended for operators of medium to large industrial facilities, where several halls must be cleaned in one shift, operator time needs to be reduced, and robust industrial protection and tank size are priorities. For factories with high throughput, the Industrial Floor Scrubber J85 stands out, as its slightly higher initial cost is quickly offset by substantial labour savings and improved cleaning consistency.

“Switching from the J45 to the J85 enabled us to merge two cleaning shifts into one, even after expanding with an additional production hall. The extra investment was recouped within weeks, and we now maintain cleaner lines with less overtime.” — Jan Novak, Production Manager, MetalForm s.r.o., Brno (CZ)
